      Are there any best places for storing a whisker pole on the 424? I am keeping my pole from my old boat (Pearson 323) and plan to use it on my new 424. The pole is a 12-22′, 3.5″ aluminum and was oversize for the 323. On the old boat it was chocked on deck, but was always in the way. I’ve seen a couple of 424’s that have them chocked on the bow toe rail outside the stanchions. Before I drill holes I would appreciate any suggestions.

      When I refinished my spars I put a longer track on the mast and I stowe it
      vertically there.

      If ever needed I’ll last it to the stanchions where the PO stored
      it exclusively, but it’s annoyingly under foot there.

      If you store it on the mast, you’ll never have to lift it. Imagine trying to deploy or store that pole on a heaving and pitching deck….. YIKES….. stored on the mast, it’s always attached and a few pulls of a string or two it’s stored out of the way.
      I got all the hardware from “RiggingOnly” dot com….. very helpful, knowledgeable and the prices are good.

      Ted Riley here.  Hull #175.  I keep mine stored on the mast.  I installed a track with a running car and line.  When stowed the car is at the top and the pin end is at the bottom of the mast.  When ready to use it I attach the toping lift, slide the car down to the height I want, extend and attach sail.  I like the arrangement because it does not take up deck space.  If you can find a Harken catalog they have a diagram of the system in it.  I actually used a Forespar system.
      Good luck,

      Charlie I mounted a length of track on the leading edge of my mast with cheek block top and bottom system supplied by US Spars. Easy to deploy and store, never in the way.

      Same rig on my boat.

      I have seen a rig with two poles mounted on the mast to fly two
      foresails wing on wing.

      Have you considered stowing the pole on the mast? Use a longer track, keep the inboard end of the pole clipped on the mast and hoist it up to vertical when not using it.

      Yes, I have thought of keeping it on the mast. I looked at pictures of Whoosh and it looks like that is what they have done. It appears that the track goes up far enough to take the car up around the spreaders which leaves the bottom to be clipped on to a pole mount which is attached to the deck. Since I don’t have a track, and wasn’t planning on the expense of one with the cars and adjustment blocks, etc., I was wondering if I could just put a padeye on the mast at the top of the pole and a pole mount bracket on the bottom like Whoosh. I don’t have a topping lift and do not plan to have one for the pole. I have always just attached the pole to the sail clew and then to the mast padeye manually. Anyone think of reasons I wouldn’t want to do that..
      Thanks for any comments;
      Charlie
