I have some good friends who just bought a new used boat, not a 424, with a Westerbeke 63C engine that has issues. I know little about this engine but I promised to do a bit of research to try and help them out. I found little on the web but thought someone in our group might have some answers to help out. I found that the 63D is a marinized Mazda B2200 S2. The 63C appears to be the same engine but I can’t be sure. Does anyone know what the differences are between these versions of the 63?

Briefly, they have a problem with their injection pump. The thing blows blue smoke. It appears that the pump has been replaced during a recent rebuild but the replacement doesn’t appear to fit quite right. My suspicion is a timing issue with the injection pump. The pump appears to be rotated to the end of its adjustment. A new pump purchased from Westerbeke is unobtanium. If we can determine if the correct pump is installed, and if not what the right pump is, we might save some money.

      Thanks in advance

Previous owner of my 424 repowered with a 63C approx 17 years ago.
Not having had any injector issues, I am unaware/uninformed of what I have on my engine.
I am not at the boat now… and won’t get back there til mid week. If I can help by taking pics of my engine/injection pump I’m happy to do it.

      Check out

      Westerbeke

appears the 63C is a Perkins 4.135 licensed to Mazda and built by them under the S2 designation.
