      Hello All

I have just installed a port in the forward end of the water tanks. When I started cleaning I thought that there was just one baffle in the middle of the tank. After being able to reach in both ends I found there is a second baffle. This makes three separate sections in the tank one that I still can’t get to. The tanks were nasty. I was inspired by Pat’s picture that showed a white tank. I had no idea that the tanks were white on the inside till I saw that photo. Both ends are now spotless but the middle section is a little funky, much better than before but still funky. Has anyone installed a third port to access the middle section to clean?

I had three access ports (plastic screw-ins) on my starboard tank which I
believe has a broken baffle probably from freezing. In my port tank we
installed two ports. I highly recommend these stainless ports over the
plastic Beckson screw-in ones. See the post:

Thanks to the previous owner my tanks have three ports. I am able to sponge
all of the water and silt out in the fall and I can wipe down all surfaces
with bleach water at the beginning of each season. However, the ports are
plastic and some of them tend to leak when the tanks are overfilled (which
happens most of the time). You may want to consider metal ports if you add
      more.

For metal ports, here’s what I used and how I did it:

      http://thesailinglife.blogspot.com/2009/08/finishing-projects-holding-tank.html

      Plates from Seabuilt.

      Also:
      http://thesailinglife.blogspot.com/2007/08/beautiful-solution.html which
shows how you could construct your own (I did a 2.5″ one for the mizzen mast
      to access the wire runs…).

If you have any facility at all with metal, you can make your own from 1/8″
stainless and rubber gasket material. Save you a ton of money.
