ParticipantClaire and I decided to take a short break from the Chesapeake Bay heat and humidity. We are going to be at Friday Harbor for about a week starting Thursday, then up to Victoria for a couple days. Shoreside vacation, we plan to do some kayaking and some Orca whale watching, hopefully not at the same time. Any local knowledge about must do or most not do would be most appreciated.

Quent,
An old sailing buddy of mine, Tom Averna, runs an excellent Orca
watching company on Orcas Island (San Juan Islands), WA:
http://www.deerharborcharters.com . It’s a first-rate tour – I’ve done it
several times – and a beautiful place to visit in general. Even the
ferry ride out there is panoramic! Tell ’em Tor sent you. That probably
won’t get you a discount, but you’ll be welcomed. 🙂Tor

ParticipantThanks, Tor. We definitely want to ferry over to Orcas. We’ll look up Tom, and tell him you sent us. Hopefully, he has a big boat!
Best regards,

He’s got several USCG-inspected tour boats of varying sizes, each with a
professional captain AND also a licensed naturalist on board who
explains all the cool stuff you’re seeing. Probably the best operation
of its kind out there. You’ll have a blast!Tor
