      All,

With the recent activity building on our owner and vessel database, Evan and I were wondering how best to make this information available to you all. We (briefly) discussed putting it on the site interactively (for registered users only, and with privacy safeguards), but in the interests of not making decisions on your behalf, I thought it would be a good idea to ask what you, our community, are looking for.

The more interactive the page, the greater the cost to develop it. I’ve looked around, and its likely we’re talking around $250-$350 to add the information in an interactive way, and almost zero to add it as a static page.

So, with that in mind, what are your thoughts? For that matter, how would you like to see our site evolve in support of this community?

A static list works fine for me.  Of course I realize that puts more work on the Admins as someone has to maintain the list.  So if a majority of the members opt for interactive list, I will contribute to the cost.

I vote for static as well as the boats don't change that often and shouldn't be much of a bother.

      All,

I think an interactive one not only reduces admin tme but also adds an element of future proofing should a new custodian be required to take on “the list”…..furthermore people can update and edit instantly which is more rewarding and interactive experience where a degree of ownership and responsibility is also satisfying. as mentioned by wiser heads than myself i will also be willing to contribute (contribute more than instagram postings!! zzz)

      thanks.

Thanks for the feedback – appreciate that its early morning. Chris, I am in London, so your time zone for a few days – hence the odd time of posting.
Wish I could break away to meet you.

I agree with Bob. The boat info won’t change except when ownership (and then maybe the boat’s name) change. That doesn’t require complicated, almost guaranteed problematic interactive capability.

Regarding that database, as I suggested once before, I think it should include the boat’s year. I know you can figure that out from the hull ID number, but stating it early on in a boat’s information list would probably be easier to read and of general interest.

Old London town….. must be lovely right now with all the grey drizzle, damp and cold – living up to all those expectations!!

The Doris is in London for meetings you better hope you steer clear of that mad banshee as she just got paid and loves to shop…
maybe one trip (if you do it regularly) you can break out on a 4 hour trip west on the M4 motorway to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire and we can go sailing aboard the beast……. Till then – keep working!

      Static is fine with me.
I am willing to participate in the cost if a
      majority prefer interactive.
