Having some difficulty trying to remove Borg Warner Velvet Drive tranny form W58. Bottom nuts on both sides extremely difficult to get a wrench, socket, crows foot on.
Anyone have any suggestions on how best to get these nuts off?
No magic bullet on this; you might have to use a short wrench and find
some way to put extra torque on it. I went through this my first
season when I fetched the boat home 2 years ago. I was in the Erie
canal when my dampener plate tanked. With no experience, I managed to
remove the tranny with a cobbled together tool set. I had a plate
fed-exed to the next lock, and I was on my way. And because you have
to get under a lot of stuff to get there, it is a confidence builder
job for sure. not to mention a great opportunity to clean underneath.
LOL
We used short combination wrenches and got it out in two hours. Five hours to reinstall. We hired a very good mechanic in Dominica, W.I. He only had one hand, he was amazing. This was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. We are now in St. Martin. So far so good. We bypassed the water cooling jacket and temp seems good. We have about 13 hours on engine since then.
