ParticipantI had the same happen to me in Taylor’s creek in Beaufort. Then I was on my Catalina 30 with a wing keel and there was no way that I was going to get that unwrapped. Just by luck the wind shifted and I was able to pull in the rode to get some slack and drop it back down to get it off the keel. That’s when I added the 80′ of chain.

ParticipantIs anybody using the anchorbudy?
I've thought about getting one instead of going to all chain… (currently my first 40 feet is chain… then 3 strand)…Rick

ModeratorIt looks like you could make your own 'Anchor Buddy' with nothing more than a bunch of chain, a large shackle, and a strong piece of line. Why would you purchase one?

We use a home made version consisting of a 35 lb. lead brick with an eye bolt though it and a large carabiner around the rode. Easy to take on and off and holds the chain on the bottom in most conditions.
