KeymasterAll,
Project directory is now live on the top menu, whether you’re logged in or not! Look for it on the menu.
We have raised $585 against our target of $1400 for the year! Thank you so much.

ParticipantEwan,
Can you rig it so Reply emails like yours below retain the original message to which we’re replying? Otherwise, they’re often confusing because I don’t know or donât remember what they might be Replying to.

KeymasterTor,
I don’t think I can. Is it possible for you to sort your emails by conversation in your email client? That will collect all the responses together and allow you to follow where each one fits.
Let me know if that is helpful. I’m trying to get the site stabilized and functioning for the basics.

ParticipantI understand, you’ve got your hands full.
I can see all my saved emails’ subjects, but can’t tell which one is being answered. I’ll live with it. Maybe later you’ll have time for some of the fine points.

KeymasterThey should be sorted by date/time under conversation or thread. You could use your client and flag the ones you respond to.Ewan___

KeymasterI will look into adding the thread link into the footer, so you can immediately go to the thread on the web. Would that help?Ewan___

ParticipantEwan,
I use MS Outlook, by far the most practical “client” – perhaps the only one, I don’t know – for people who travel a lot and only get online sporadically. It allows me to go online, download all incoming emails, send whatever’s in my outbox, and go offline again within a minute, all the newly received emails now held on my hard drive to be read and dealt with when convenient – offline. Canât imagine doing it any other way.
I guess I have preferred the email side of this forum because it has been so easy in the past. An email comes in with whatever it was responding to, so I can see at a glance what it’s about, decide whether or not I have anything to add to that conversation, and then drag it into my Pearson 424 Owners’ Group folder, my “archive.” It all takes seconds, which is often all I have time for. I enjoy this group and our discussions and don’t want to make it burdensome. If our emails can no longer include the previous message being replied to, then I’ll just be less tuned in to what’s being said and why. C’est la vie. I don’t expect you to tailor it to my needs. I’ll take what comes, do what I can, and still be grateful for your huge contributions.
Thanks,
Tor

ParticipantThank you for your concern, Ewan. If you read the email I just sent explaining how and why I use MS Outlook, I think you’ll understand why web-based additions won’t be all that useful to me. My system, my lifestyle, is geared to brief, sporadic Internet access. Right now I happen to have longer connectivity, but that is likely to end in a few months and I’ll be back to grabbing momentary signals when and where I can, the price of traveling freeform.
So in the long term, no, a thread link to a website won’t help me much since I’ll probably be offline by the time I read it.(It might, however, be a boon to other members!) If eventually you see a way for our emails to function as they used to, so that they include the previous message, I’ll be thrilled. Meanwhile, I’ll work with what is. You’ve got more important stuff to deal with right now.
Thanks,
Tor

ParticipantTor,I did a quick scan of the MS Office website and I think Outlook now has the ability to handle emails as part of a conversation (AKA threads). Take a look at this tutorial for Outlook 2013. -

ParticipantThanks very much, John. I’ll check it out, but I believe Iâm using Outlook 2010. I tend to lag behind on these programs.
