The yard in Tyrrel Bay Carriacou, where I store Mary Murray 424 Ketch #164 has purchased a stacker trailer so they can store the boats closer together. I remember some posts on the forum some years ago discussing possible damage to the hull / keel on the 424 if the boat is not transported carefully or blocked correctly.
Has anyone got any information on this topic ?
      Thanks

Stack or block where the ballast is to the forward part of the keel. Unless you’ve had a pretty expensive and messy repair done to the aft part, you’ll have the full weight of the boat on an unsupported fiberglass layup. No Bueno!

Many have found to their dismay that this is a weakness. I have just added about 15 layers of biaxial glass and epoxy to the bottom of my keel, from the inside and the outside, so I am ok for the moment, but I will be glassing in a structural component or two as my refit continues.

For reference, I could see right through the bottom of my keel – six photos attached! Some in progress, one with the bulk of the internal glassing done, and one with the exterior rear keel showing how we blocked it to get under there.
