      Hello everyone.

I want to get physically to the front of the westerbeke and I can’t figure out how to get there. The original manual of the boat suggests removing the side honeycomb panel on the lazzarette to do that but that would mean somehow crawling over the fuel tank ?

Just curious how do folks change the belts and such…

      Thanks for any advice

Remove the ladder and engine cover lid and slide the engine cover forward. Remove the panel just above the engine. Put some cushions on the engine and lay on it. Be careful to avoid damaging any fuel lines.

It’s helpful for me sometimes to remove the pegboard in the wet locker, located to the starboard of the companionway ladder (by the nav station). Really opens up access to the right side of the engine as well as forward.

BTW you can access the engine through the inside of the locker by the nav station ?. In my hull if I open that locker (full size coat hanger type locker), poke my head inside and look towards the engine I see nothing but fiberglass :0

Hmmm. Well that’s curious! I don’t think mine is unique…pretty standard ketch with one head. Nav station by the aft companionway, just to starboard. On mine, the hanging locker (wet locker) is basically part of the engine bay. Only thing separates the two spaces is pegboard. That is relatively easily removed. Opens up access to the left side of the engine (since the engine faces aft) and also opens up access to the front of the engine. My vessel is a relatively late model, #189. Perhaps the fiberglass you are looking at is a removable panel?
