A lifelong sailor friend of mine wrote, “My boat is slow, but the sea is patient.” When I get a chance I’ll ask him if it’s an original quip or a quote. Meanwhile, does anyone know if someone else said it first?

Nice quote. It seems familiar, but a Goggle search had zero hits for that phrase. “The sea is patient.” had a few hits from some blogs and nothing else. None of those attributed the phrase to a source. It would be interesting to hear if your friend saw it
somewhere or came up with it on his own.

      Will,

I asked him and he said “My boat is slow, but the sea is patient” is all his, that he’s been saying it for years. His name is John A. Smith, on Facebook.

      Tor,

That’s great. Now I know who to attribute it to when I use it.

I always liked the line from a Howlin Wolf song. I’m built for comfort, I ain’t built for speed.
