ParticipantHas anyone replaced the ports with New Found Metal ports? If so what sizes did you use? Has anyone used another brand? I am replacing them all while I am painting the deck.
thanks
Linus

I installed six 5x12s in the salon and v berth area 15 years ago when we bought Eclipse. Approx 6 years ago I installed two 6x20s – 1 at the head sink and the other on the port side of the aft cabin.. each of the 6x20s required some minor removal of the cabin side fiberglass to fit…
I bought teak trim rings from NFM, which are needed because our cabin walls are so thin. I also used their butyl tape for the first six… it was very gooey and difficult to clean up. For the 6x20s I used the Bed It butyl rubber tape from Maine Sail.
No leaks on any of these ports and they look great.
I still have the old aluminum fixed ports at the galley and shower.

ParticipantNewfound metals has a line of plastic frame ports that are a good fit for the smaller opening ports on the 424. They are not like the cheap Beckson ports that some production boats have. The frame is a heavy plastic material but there is a stainless frame and hardware. I’d have no second thoughts of taking the boat offshore with them. They install from the outside and have self-sealing gaskets. They rent a template for trimming the hole. A router makes it simple. Trim rings are suggested.
The stainless ports are nicer but I’m not sure the cost difference makes them a better choice.

ParticipantThanks, Rich I have not even looked at the plastic option. With your recommendation I will give them a look.
Rick did you rebuild the old ports at some point. It looks like the glaze has separated from the pane in mine and they leak. I really do want an opening port in both those locations.

ParticipantI have not touched the old fixed ports at the gallery and shower. I guess I’ve been lucky they haven’t leaked.

ParticipantI have two large fixed port in the head. The other two large ports open. I’ve since replaced the two opening ports but have so far been unable to locate a replacement that will fit in the hole left by the fixed ports. These are a bit larger than the opening ports. Apparently, large opening ports were an option. I wish the original owner had sprung for an opening port in the shower stall. If anyone finds a port that fits the fixed port hole, please let me know. Bigger is OK, but smaller is hard to deal with.
