Watch how a clever captain gets his 80′ stick under a 65′ bridge on the ICW. He uses water bags weighing 2 tons suspended from halyards to heel over. This is on SAIL Magazine’s facebook page. Unbelievable!

The only way to get there is through the SAIL Facebook page. Log into Facebook.

copy and paste above Google it! found it in several places. IMHO the
      “captain” is an idiot, LOL.

It would be even more awesome if he actually sailed it!

That’s great – next time I’m in the Okachobee Canal, I’ll try the same
      maneuver.

With a boat like that and a 65′ stick, why, I wonder, wouldn’t he just
sail outside? You want to chug down the ICW, get a trawler. They fit
      under the bridges just fine.

Does anyone know where he got the water bags? I need to get under a 35 ft. bridge with my 424 at 54ft.above the water. Thanks-Jim Roberts

I don’t know about the water bags, but there may be someone near the bridge that provides the service, if it is a common route.

However, I calculate that you need to heel the boat over 51° to get the stick 34 feet above the water. Have you checked to see if the cockpit will flood at that angle of heel.

I don’t know about the water bags, James, but Home Depot is having a
      sale on Sawzalls.

Here you go: http://tufftechbags.com/flexiblerainbarrels.htm then make a
sling for it. There may be other manufacturers – the ones on the video look
like the ones carried by helicopters for firefighting. I’m sure I could
find them exactly if I look more.
