Any opinions on these new style FW pumps such as FLo-Jet variable sensor
units? Would 4.0 or 5.0 gpm be necessary for a galley sink and 2 heads?

Thanks- I need to replace an aging Jabsco diaphragm style unit.

Our pressurized water system is driven by a Jabsco Sensor Max VSD
31750 which draws from the tanks through an American Plumber W38-PRA
(W.5CB) filter which can have one of several filters installed designed to
remove sediment and chlorine or tiny little bacteria as needed.

I think the Cold water side could benefit from an accumulator tank because
the pressure is stabstantially higher on the HOT side which goes through
the hot water heater. I don’t even know when we last turned that on, but I
think it’s tank acts like an accumulator. That said, the pressure isn’t bad
on the cold sider, it’s just better on the hot.

Our old (original?) pump was so loud we were embarrased by it. This one is
      great!
I should mention we elimintated the forward sink… saw no need for it!

I was all over the VSD pumps, but have had two myself, had customers with
one or more fail. Especially the leak detection ones. I went back to a
      simple pump and accumulator system.

The fancy pumps are a great idea but are not ready for prime time.

I have heard that same comment from several people this winter on my travels south…. Simple is better.

That was my experience (what Bob wrote) several years ago. I went through
three of the pumps before going back to one of the standard (constant
speed) pumps. I hoped they had improved as they are definitely quieter and
more efficient than the standard ones. Doesn’t sound like it.
As to the volume, I believe my current pump is 4.3 gpm. That is more than
adequate, but I rarely have more than one of four faucets on at the same
      time.

I assume that this is the freshwater pressure water pump. The nice thing about the old diaphram pumps is that they are self-priming. I replaced mine with a Jabsco PAR wabble-plate pump several years back. It works well, but it doesn’t prime itself. If it runs dry, it can be difficult to prime. This can happen if the tank is low and the boat is on a tack that puts the tank on the low side of the boat. Mounting it low can help avoid this problem. I mounted mine on the side of the bulkhead below the galley sink. I wish I had mounted it lower. I installed an in-line water strainer and accumulator tank followed by a sediment filter.

I have a backup foot-pump. I’m looking at moving the connections so that I could use it to prime the pressure water pump.

      Regards
      Rich

Rodd-I had a Jabsco 3 gpm but it became very loud when pumping.I went back to the Shurflo pumps because they claim to be quiet.I started with a 2 gpm and asked West Marine if I could return if if it didn’t provide adequate flow-it didn’t and I returned it for the 3 gpm.3 gpm provides plenty of flow-perhaps 4-5 gpm is overkill.
I also installed new valves and hoses under the floor [mover from the sink cabinet wall mount] because I had a tendencyto overfill the tanks and flood the cabinet floor.I now how a white, uncluttered sink cabinet.

decided to go with a simple Shurflo 4.0 gpm pump and keep my accumulator
tank as well. Tks for heads up on the VSD pumps- good idea, but if not
      reliable who needs it!
