ParticipantI’m in the final stages of my repower project and have a question where others have located their waterlift muffler. I’ve added a big loop before the through hull and feel I’m protected from any following seas.
I have the 3″ I/O, 10″ diameter, Vernalift muffler. The exhaust with the new Yanmar’s is located on the starboard side of the boat and will require moving the muffler to either the centerline of boat or to the starboard side.
I purchased the engine with the high rise injection elbow but am worried that it may be not be high enough to prevent splashing back into the engine. For the boats that have repowered, how much drop is there between your injection elbow to the plane of the intake on the water muffler? Looking at Richard’s repower pictures, it seems almost level when mounted all the way to starboard but is difficult to determine.
I’m considering mounting the muffler in the centerline of the boat where I can get some additional depth to prevent back flooding the engine.
I’m looking at other Yanmar installations on other boats and have noticed an antisiphon valve located after the seawater pump and before the injection elbow. Has anyone installed this on their Pearson?
Many thanks!

ParticipantThe antisiphon valve is important, should be on the top of the vented loop well above the max heeled waterline to create an air lock; the vented loop takes the heated raw water from the heat exchanger and discharges it into the exhaust elbow. The exhaust elbow is a high maintenance item (cast iron, heated raw/salt water, super hot exhaust gases) as is the vented loop (the valve/hose clogs and you back siphon into the engine). It is an ABYC standard! (P-1.7.2.2)
Good luck!

ParticipantGreat, thanks!
I’ll be sure to add the anti-siphon valve on the seawater line.
Do you have any suggestions for location of the water muffler? I’m a little confused on the difference from the Centek Vernalift and the Vetus Waterlocks.

ParticipantCenterline makes the most sense to me unless your configuration dictates otherwise.
