Sound proofing (er reduction) and the engine compartment

Twelve years ago I added the multilayer material to the engine cover (3 sides and top).
For a winter project I thought I might try to reduce the sound in the cockpit by doing something to the area aft of the engine. That space is very busy with wires, hoses, etc.
Has anyone had success knocking down the noise that comes right through the fiberglass into the cockpit?
