ParticipantHi all,
We are the owners of Winnedumah, ex-Aurora, a 1980 424 ketch. We bought her from Phil Fontaine last year, and sailed her from Long Island Sound to Nova Scotia, where she spent the winter undergoing a complete refit by Covey Island Boatworks. (They were part of a 3-company consortium that built the Bluenose II, based in Lunenburg). We hope to post some highlights of the refit, but our primary focus will be on blogging about our upcoming cruise. We are on our way to Nova Scotia now for her commissioning next week. Our plan is to linger in the area between Lunenburg and Halifax for a couple of weeks, then head north to Cape Breton Island, and, if all goes well, hop across to the south coast of Newfoundland for the month of August. We’ll then turn around and work our way back south, and, when hurricane season ends, hope to continue to the Bahamas for the winter. Of course, we are cruising, so anything might change. We invite you to follow our blog, sailingwinnedumah.com, where we will share lessons learned as we go along. Of course, we’d love advice from any other owners who have done extended cruising on their 424s
As part of the refit, she received a new Beta 50. Some months ago, we offered parts from our W60 as well as spares that Phil had collected, but it turned out we had no good way of getting them to the States from Nova Scotia. Hopefully, that problem will be eliminated when we sail back to the US this fall, so, for anyone who is interested, we will keep you posted.

ParticipantAloha David: We purchased hull#135 about 10 years ago and did a refit. I replaced the old W58 and switched to electric about 3 years ago. I would enjoy seeing what you have done to your boat and look forward to pix.

SV Idyll OursJim, how is your itinerary and timing looking? We are currently in the Bras d’Or Lakes and will be back on Nova Scotia’s south coast by the end of August. In September we will cross back to the US, but the exact departure time is TBD. Wonder if we will cross paths.
