      Ahoy all,

I haven’t received any emails from this group for a couple of months – hopefully everyone’s out sailing – but now I have a question that some of you might be able to answer. I don’t get to the website much, have always relied on emails to keep in touch, and I’m not getting 424 emails anymore, so if you have information that might be helpful to me please email me directly at 424@silverheels.us . Thanks.

All but 2 of Silverheels’ portlights/portholes are original. They’re all perfectly functional, but the lenses were once tinted and that tinting has deteriorated badly, to the point that a few look downright leprous. Anybody know what removes old tinting?

      Thanks,

      Tor

      Is everyone getting these emails?

I am, on all my accounts.

I am too. Seems to me I get everything anyone enters.

Taking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

Tor, I rarely get to the site these days but get many  emails on  subjects I have not contributed to.

Tinting is a pigment given to the polycarbonate.  It’s not on the surface. Someone may have applied an aftermarket tint to your ports.

Never use ammonia cleaner (e.g. windex) on polycarbonate lenses.  It damages the plastic.  I’ve seen lots of older boats with ports that look terrible as a result.
