      Hello,

I started to re-install my chain plates this last weekend. Please recall that I made all the 8 large plates to the same measurements…they are all identical. Five of the six forward plates went back in with no problem. For the sixth, 3 of the four holes are dead on….for one hole I’ll have to either slightly enlarge the hole or go down a size on on the bolt.

I ordered my stainless steel bar stock online and brought them to a local machinist. Cost for the metal was $278…cost for machining was $60.

I will finish installing the rest in about two weeks…after that, I will need to re-seal the covers.

That’s one heck of a price to have this done. I checked with a local spar manufacturer and they quoted me more than that for just one plate!

As I’m sure you’ve considered, the plate pulls up when under load. If the hole in the bulkhead is slightly low, I don’t see an issue with drilling it out. If the bulkhead hole is slightly high however, it won’t take-up any load when the rig is tensioned. In the second case, I might drag the hole in the chainplate.
