Bob,
The bilge beeper is 1-1/2″ disc I got from someone here in the yard, a spare they had, but I’m sure Radio Shack sells them. It makes a high-pitched beeping loud enough to hear belowdecks and loud enough to wake me up, but probably not loud enough to be heard in at the helm if the engine’s running and/or the wind’s blowing, or if the companionway is closed. Hence the lights on the engine panel.
The LED lights are little guys, yellow for bilge, red for high water, installed through small, drilled holes in the nav station panel and the cockpit’s engine control panel.
The high water alarm is just a float switch on a small shelf I epoxied to the side of the bilge. The car horn it triggers cost about $10 at Advanced Auto.
These alarms definitely provide a good measure of security and confidence. I sleep better knowing they’re there. (I also lift the floorboard and look into the bilge sump area at least a couple of time a day, everyday, in the normal course of things whether or not I’m underway.)
